Azamara Journey

A comfortable, upscale cruise experience

Like her sister ship, the Azamara Journey is a mid-sized beauty with a deck plan well-suited to the needs of modern voyagers. In addition to going to the most celebrated destinations on Earth, youll also go to less-traveled ports, enjoy scenic rivers and waterways that are off-limits to big cruise lines, and sail to the doorstep of great cities like Seville, Hong Kong, and Bordeaux.

You'll never feel crowded in the comfortable social spaces of her bars, restaurants, and lounges. Youll love the genial club-like atmosphere and the way the attentive staff and crew get to know you. And youll feel the same friendliness with your fellow voyagers.

Staterooms feature modern amenities, furnishings, and European linens. And one of the greatest features of this ship is the large number of staterooms with verandas. There's nothing better than opening your door to the fresh sea air and views.

Azamara's friendly ships are an altogether wonderful place to call your home away from home!

Exclusive Shore Event: Reykjavik | Iceland Highlights and Festive Lunch

We begin our day with a drive through the city of Reykjavik. Notable sites include the newly built Harpa Concert Hall, an award-winning structure by Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson; Hallgrimskirkja Church, an architectural landmark visible throughout the city; the central, downtown area by "Tjrnin", the Pond; and Perlan, a revolving restaurant that sits above five giant hot-water tanks.

Next, we head out of the city and to the Geothermal Energy Exhibition at Hellisheidi Power Plant: a great example of how geothermal energy can be utilized in a sustainable manner. This landmark structure houses an interactive exposition about Iceland's geology and the utilization of geothermal energy in Iceland.

We will then stop for lunch at Hafid Blaa a seaside restaurant that focuses on fresh seafood sourced directly from local fishermen. Enjoy delicious langoustine lobster with spectacular, panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding mountains, followed by coffee and cake.

After lunch we will continue on to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the location of Iceland's ancient parliament between the years 930 AD and 1798. Not only a gathering place for chieftains establishing law, it was also an open air meeting place for games, feasts, marriages, and trade, as well as the site for some of Iceland's most momentous decisions: from the adoption of Christianity in 1000 AD to the foundation of the Republic of Iceland in 1944. Fascinatingly, Thingvellir is located in a rift valley, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pull apart, clearly visible at the great Almannagja or Everyman's Gorge. From a viewpoint overlooking the plains, our guide will take us on an optional walk to Lgberg (Law Rock), where the speaker of parliament proclaimed memorized laws up until the 13th century, when they were documented in writing. (Those who choose not to walk can take the coach between the two points.)

We will then make the return drive back to Reykjavik and the ship.

Approximate Length: Seven hours.

Suggested Attire: Casual attire with comfortable and sturdy walking shoes. Rain-gear is recommended.  Moderate walking on a level gravel path.

PLEASE NOTE: All Virtuoso events ashore are capacity controlled and require a minimum number of participants to operate. Events are subject to change without notice. These events are individually tailored for each date and arrival. Your event could be different than whats noted here; but it will be designed to be memorable and to bring you a travelers view that you will treasure, and would otherwise miss entirely. Final details will be outlined in program letters provided by your Virtuoso host aboard ship.
